Fort Saint Elme protects Collioure and Port-Vendres.
The Fort was built in a star shape by Charles V between 1538 and 1552 around a tower that dates back to the 9th century.
Transformed in the 17th century by the architect Vauban, the Fort was the focal point of war between French and Spanish troops up until the French Revolution. Today, the Fort is a cultural site celebrating the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The sense of history and the wonderful panoramic views guarantee a fulfilling visit.
Fort Saint Elme is accessible on foot from Collioure and by car from Port-Vendres.
